On October 1, 2025, Microsoft revealed information on game pass including the games and new prices. Microsoft started off strong showing new games like hollow knight, little rocket lab and more, most fans where excited and like the games. Although it all went downhill after that. Microsoft announced how starting November 4th game pass will now be 30$ a month!
Many Xbox game pass holders felt this to be overpriced and caused by greed within the company. The days following the announcement so many people returned the game pass it caused the return website to crash trapping people who no longer can offer the game pass or who may not want it to keep it till the website is back up.
Microsoft had a massive loss of 300 million dollars and estimated 1.25 million users from this controversy. For many users 30 dollars a month is a lot of money to spend on something like a game, this is especially true for teens who may be paying for it. Microsoft has tried to say the new prices are worth it due to the new games added to game pass.
A reason speculated by media is that the rise of price comes after the addition of the Call Of Duty franchise to the Game pass which is also one of Microsoft most profitable games making an astonishing 1.97 billion dollars since 2014.
Many users hope Microsoft makes the right choice to bring the price back down. Will this be the end of the Xbox legacy ended by profit margins and greed?
